Don here!

This is a quick page I've set up to showcase some of my artwork. Most of the artwork is sequential pencil art (i.e. comic pages which *hopefully* clearly tell a story), coming mainly from assignments I've done for the Critical Mass forum on the Penciljack Message Board. The artwork is posted in reverse chronological order, with the most recent stuff at the top of the page. Sometime in the future, I may separate sequentials from non-sequential art, but for now, it's all mixed in together here.

All artwork is © Copyright 2003 Sheldon Goh Yu Yee. All characters depicted are © Copyright the respective copyright holders.

Click the thumbnail for a look at the full piece of art. If you're on a broadband connection or don't mind waiting for the image to load, go ahead and click the High-Res filename for a larger, clearer image. Images will load in a new browser window.

Hope you enjoy the art!

Conan Art Jam Page 2
Description & Comments

Page 2 of a sequential art jam done on the Penciljack Projects forum. The cover and other pages were handled by other forum members. H pencil on Fabriano Bristol board. This is the second page I did for this art jam, taking over the assignment from another artist who was unable to finish his page due to family commitments at the time. Pretty pleased with this one. Panel 6 was a doozy!

From an original script by Loston Wallace and Chris Wallkam.

Conan Art Jam Page 6
Description & Comments Page 6 of a sequential art jam done on the Penciljack Projects forum. The cover and other pages were handled by other forum members. I may try and do a couple more pages myself to add to my portfolio. First time using the new Fabriano Bristol board I bought at a local art shop (cut and ruled it out myself). Nice and smooth, yet not waxy at all and takes pencil lines well. Used an H pencil. This could be a winning combination in the tools and materials department!

Ghost Sequential Page 3
Description & Comments Page 3 of the Ghost submission script from Dark Horse Comics. I'm still not too happy with Panel 3. The angle on that reflection is off. It's been a fun and challenging script so far. Decided to use a B pencil for the EON board. It works better and scans better too.

Ghost Sequential Page 2
Description & Comments Page 2 of the Ghost submission script from Dark Horse Comics. My first time using the new EON paper I ordered. It's toothy and very different from the BlueLine boards I've been using up to now. 2H was too light. Went with HB instead. The scanner gave me all manner of problems on this one. Finally managed to get a decent re-scan.

Footballer Reference Drawing
Description & Comments From a Critical mass assignment where we were given this photo of a footballer in mid-tackle and asked to use it as photo reference. I decided to make it Captain America saving a kid from a burning building. The leg pose looks a bit awkward, but I was trying to get it to match up with the photo.

Page 3 of the GI Joe Critical Mass assignment. There's room for improvement, but the old confidence is returning for sure.

GI Joe Sequential Page 2
Description & Comments Page 2 of the GI Joe Critical Mass assignment. Had to struggle to get started on this as the first panel was a doozy to decide a best approach for.

Description & Comments Page 1 of the GI Joe Critical Mass assignment. I was happy with page design on this one, from the Neal Adams-eque diagonal panel to the running pose on Storm Shadow.

Description & Comments From a Critical mass assignment where we were given this photo of Jennifer Garner and asked to use it as photo reference. I decided to make it Jennifer Garner in Frank Miller's classic Elektra costume.

Tarzan Sequential Page 3
Description & Comments Page 3 of the Tarzan In Pellucidar assignment from Critical Mass. I was getting more experimental with the panel layouts here as the confidence with the pencils slowly returns. The L-shaped panel and the open panel I think worked well.

Tarzan Sequential Page 2
Description & Comments Page 2 of the Tarzan In Pellucidar assignment from Critical Mass. I'm glad I decided to push myself on Panel 2 where Tarzan rolls into the shot from off-panel. The 3D-ish approach works I think. Still, there's always room for improvement...

T-Rex Drawing
Description & Comments This is from a Critical Mass assignment where we had to draw 3 prehistoric creatures. I'd had a busy week and only managed to finish one. A tyrannosaurus rex. Not exactly paleontologically precise, but it's still a a favorite piece.

Doctor Strange Sequential Page
Description & Comments Another Critical Mass assignment piece and my second sequential after over a decade of not doing sequential art. I'm rusty, but getting loosened up. Need to build up that old confidence again. There's work to be done still, but at least I'm drawing again.

Bus-Stop Sequential Page
Description & Comments My very first assignment for the Critical Mass forum at penciljack.com. I haven't done sequentials since I was 15 or 16. That's almost a 14 year gap! I'm rusty and I need to figure out a couple of things all over again. But I finally broke the seal on my 7-year-old pack of BlueLine Pro paper (slightly yellowish by now) and got down to it. God, it felt good to draw again!
